What to Pack for a Jawai Safari
JawaiTrails Team··1 min read
Safaris in Jawai run in open jeeps over rocky tracks, starting early in the morning or late in the afternoon. Pack light, but pack right.
Clothing
- Neutral colours such as khaki, olive, brown or beige. Avoid white and bright colours.
- Layers in winter (November to February). Mornings can be 5–8°C in an open jeep, so bring a warm jacket, a cap or beanie, and gloves.
- Light cotton in summer, plus a wide-brimmed hat and a scarf for the dust.
- Comfortable closed shoes for climbing in and out of the jeep.
Essentials
- Binoculars (8x42 or 10x42 are ideal)
- Sunscreen, sunglasses and lip balm
- A refillable water bottle (we carry drinking water)
- Government photo ID for every adult
- Any personal medicines
Camera gear
A 100–400mm or 150–600mm zoom is perfect for leopards on the ridges. Bring spare batteries and memory cards, since cold mornings drain batteries fast. A bean bag works better than a tripod in a jeep.
Leave behind
- Perfume and strong scents
- Plastic bags and single-use bottles
- Drones (not allowed without permission)
